Epiphania

Epiphania Josephine Leontine Ursula Marchal Stracké, daughter of the German sculptor Johan Stracké, was born in Brussels on October 13, 1844. She married the Dutch artist, Petrus Arendzen, in Holland in 1870 and moved with him to London. She gave birth to five sons and four daughters. Epiphania died in Hampstead, London in October 1929.

This 'photograph' of Epiphania is, in fact, a pencil drawing dated 1863. The faint initials ‘A-PJ’ can be made out suggesting that this was a drawing by Petrus. Judging by the detail apparent in the dress, it is quite probable that Petrus drew on top of a photograph.
