Petrus Arendzen made several hundred etchings so I have been forced to make a selection. However, it is my intention eventually to catalogue and publish as much of his work as I can.
Most of the etchings on these pages are copies from Old Masters. However, for brevity, I have not indicated in the titles of the etchings that they are “after” the originals.
The Rijksmuseum lists more than one hundred works by Petrus. If you click the link to the Rijksmuseum under ‘Useful Links’ you can search their collection.
Titus by Rembrandt.
Rembrandt's portrait of a boy (c.1685), thought to be his son Titus, is held at the Norton Simon Foundation in Pasadena, California.
The face is rendered in sensitive, intimate detail which has led people to think that the portrait is of Titus but not all authorities agree and the painting is also known as "Portrait of a Boy in Fancy Dress." The delicate, wistful look in the face has been reproduced well, considering the limitations of the etching's monochrome nature.
